"I Luv Africa"

The “I Luv Africa” film series promotes and sponsors charities like United Families and Trees for the Future as well as non profit group RWUL. All donations and proceeds from these screenings will aid the above mentioned organizations and introduce a few choice independent films that highlight various lives in Africa.

National Geographic Live: The Emperor and his Terra Cotta Army

To educate visitors further about the importance of the upcoming exhibit Terra Cotta Warriors: Guardians of China’s First Emperor, acclaimed historian Albert Dien will be reviewing Chinese history where the construction of the terra cotta army first began. Dien will also cover the Emperoro Qin Shihuangdi and why the magnificent army of soldiers were to be placed in his tomb. Celebrate Tango!

The National Chamber Ensemble is pleased to open its third season in celebration of the tango which will feature exciting works featuring Pizzolla's "Four Seasons In Buenos Aires", Le Grand Tango, Oblivion, Libertango, La Cumpersita and much, much more. The evening will end with a performance by special guest dance troop Pontitango.

Veterans Day Observance

Help the Homeless Walk

The Help the Homeless Program is an amazing program that raises awareness of homelessness and supports organizations which work to prevent and end homelessness in the D.C. metropolitan area. In response to the almost 12,000 person homeless population of D.C., The Fannie Mae Foundation is sponsoring Help the Homeless Walk on the National Mall on November 21, 2009. The walk hopes to raise both funding and awareness and takes place on the lawn in front of The Department of Agriculture (Jefferson Drive b/w 12th & 14th Streets NW). Walkers can pre-register at 7a.m. and begin the 3.1 mile walk circling the Tidal Basin at 9a.m. Visit www.helpthehomelessdc.org for more information and to register.
